Summary

This is a photographic workshop that will combine the genres of landscape, product and lifestyle photography into what has become known as ‘Wine Imagery’: something quite unique to the South African wine region, known as The Boland.

And what better location to base ourselves while we aim to produce a range of images, from landscapes of the endless rows of vineyards and mountains, the colourful details and textures, to the wine barrels in the cellar. As well as the product images of individual wine bottles and the commercial lifestyle images of select wine-farm staff, in the vines and in the cellar.

Composing the WINELANDS
Between the photography and post-processing, we will attend unique private wine tastings, from the commercial wine farms to the rustic boutique ventures.

So, not only will your photography and post-processing skills be challenged and improved, you will  also gain an intimate knowledge of the subject matter we will be shooting, so you can impress your guests at your next dinner party not only with your beautiful images, but with your knowledge of wine as well. A sommelier of sorts.

Picture
A minimum of two attendees is required for the workshop to run (check with us on bookings). A maximum of six photographers can take part (the Nature’s Light Photographer-to-Instructor ratio is 3:1). An industry best!

Itinerary
Day 1 - All guests arrive IN THE BOLAND
Thursday: Arrival day! We will happily arrange a shuttle from the airport to collect you after landing to bring you to the hotel, or alternatively you may make your own way there at whatever leisurely pace suits. One of the photography leaders will be there to meet the guests and can familiarise everyone with the plan for the next exciting 3 days!
There will be a welcome and a briefing for the weekend, (a selection of images you would like to produce. The thought process behind these images, from landscapes to details to products; that a wine farm would be able to use on a website or a brochure etc, for info). And then potentially photograph some images in the late afternoon (time dependent upon guest arrival). Followed by dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 - VISIT THE VINEYARDS
Friday: A relaxed morning start with a 7a.m. breakfast at the hotel. We will visit the vineyards and make some images, (close-ups using scrims for light diffusion and other interesting techniques).
Then lunch and a private wine tasting at around 12:30ish. The afternoon consists of the wine cellar shoot; making images of the oak barrels, meeting the winemaker or viticulturist who will give you in-depth details of the wines, followed by image making of wine bottles in situ. Off to a sunset shoot on the wine farm to capture the endless rows of vines and beautiful landscape, and back for dinner at the hotel in Stellenbosch.

day 3 - sUNRISE AND SUNSET SHOOTING
Saturday: An early start, with a dawn sunrise shoot on the wine farm (break out the coffee!). We will have a hearty breakfast at the hotel, followed by more clinical product photography on wine.
As per the previous day, a delicious lunch will be served and another private wine tasting at approximately 13:30ish (dependent on our days progress).  Followed by a sunset shoot on the wine farm ending with dinner at the hotel in Stellenbosch.

day 4 - COASTAL SUNRISE OR JONKERSHOEK MOUNTAINS
Sunday: A very relaxed start to the day, breakfast at 7:30a.m. We will gather together and do the post-processing of our weekends shooting, after which transfers for the afternoon fly out.
There is the optional sunrise shoot on the coast or, the breath-taking vistas on the Jonkershoek Mountains wine farm.
