Seminar Series

Seminar Series Dates

A NEW feature is our short technique and software specific Seminar Series. These are one and a half hour short seminars on a specific topic (time slots are for an hour, but we usually use a full hour and a half). These lessons will be bite sized learning chunks for photographers looking to learn (or expand upon), a new or current program. Groups are limited to 4 photographers. Cost per session is R290 per attendee.

Private online tuition is also available for R430 per hour. This is particularly useful for photographers who are wanting to concentrate on a specific technique or who would like to take a class at their own pace.

Seminar Series - Photoshop

  • Photoshop Tools and Layout - A run through of Photoshop tools, panels and drop downs as well as how to optimise Photoshop for workflow.
  • Layer Basics - Understanding the basics of creating, managing and blending layers for advanced image editing
  • Selections In Photoshop 101 - How to use the Marquee tool, Magic Wand and specialised selection tools (colour range, focus range etc).
  • The All Important Curve - Understanding Layers and Curves panels. This is applicable to all RAW editors as well and the seminar looks at both Lightroom and C1Pro Layers and Curves panels as well.
  • Sharpening Images - Various techniques on getting the best results in sharpening (the Unsharp Mask, Smart Sharpen, Masking edges for sharpening, Sharpening for output) - Bonus: Best practice for output sharpening in Lightroom.
  • Luminosity Masking Basics - Basic luminosity masks and how to create them - using dedicated luminosity tools (It is advisable to have done a session on 'Layer Basics' and 'Basic Selections BEFORE getting into luminosity masks.
  • Dodging and Burning Using Luminosity Selections - Understanding how to build a burn dodge layer (free action provided) and selectively lighten/darken using luminosiy selections (It is advisable to do 'Luminosity Masking Basics' BEFORE attending this session.
  • Actions - How to create and use actions to speed up workflow. Includes building several much used actions in the seminar (bring your laptops please) such as dodge burn layer, resizing and sharpening for web, Orton filter etc.
  • Panoramic Stitiching - Various ways in which to stitch images in Photoshop (including HDR stitching), as well as how to fix things when the stitch goes wrong! (attendees should have a basic understanding of working in layers.

  • Ingest Workflow with Capture One Pro - Optimising ingest and culling tasks with C1Pro, including filters, tagging and metadata. Differences between catalogue and sessions explained.
  • RAW Conversion in Capture One Pro - Understanding the Basics of RAW conversion from white balance through to global tonal and colour adjustments as well as dust-spotting and healing.
  • Working in Layers in Capture One Pro - Using the powerful layers feature in C1Pro. How to  make selections and create masks in for layer-based local edits.
Seminar Series - Lightroom

  • Ingest Workflow with Lightroom CC (Classic) - Optimising ingest and culling tasks with LR, including filters, tagging and metadata. How to optimise catalogues and where to find missing images.
  • RAW Conversion in Lightroom - The core editing parameters in both Lightroom and Adobe Camera RAW from Basic to Finishing Touches.
  • Lightroom Filters and Brushes - How to apply, adjust and tweak filters and brushes in Lightroom.
